On this Father's day...
Happy Father's Day, to my Dad! :) by sashanaomi on Polyvore.com
Today is a very bittersweet day for my family, especially my dad. Today thirteen years ago, on June 20, 1997, my dad's own dad passed away. Even after so much time, and even though I was only eight years old when my grandpa "papaw" died, I can still remember his hearty laugh, and the way it sounded like he was coughing his stomach out. I remember his drivenness, especially the way he reacted when my sister was bit on the nose by his beloved dog.
He used to carry around the most enormous coffee thermos I've ever seen. I wanted to carry around a thermos that big because my papaw was "all grown up" and "really cool" and I wanted to be a cool grown-up like him. Many of my memories are of sitting on the couch watching some boring grandpa channel in our Darlington home, waiting for him to fall asleep so I could turn the channel to cartoons (and let me tell you, it didn't take long before he was out, and I had to turn the volume up on the television to overcome the sound of his awfully loud snores).
I remember the way he smelled, like hard work and sweat and musky grandpa cologne that seemingly all grandpas wear. I can still feel his grainy, prickly last kiss on my cheek when we both knew it was goodbye.
Since I can't be there today, I thought I would make this little piece to remind my dad that his son Cody and I love him and think about him on this very difficult day.
Happy Father's Day!

The song played at our wedding.
I like not playing this song as much so that when I do play it, it awakes my amazing memories of 2008.
Pandora randomly played the song just now and it was a pleasant surprise :)
I love you, Pandora. Scientists. Coldplay. Love. Cody.

ALL you NEED is LOVE.
all YOU need is love.
all you NEED is love.
all you need IS love.
all you need is LOVE.
love is ALL you need.
While I listened to this song today, a thought occurred to me. I started to think more about how emphasis makes a significant impact on your interpretation of a sentence. Emphasis on a word or even syllable communicates something specific to the audience. This is especially true of iambic in poetry. I just thought it would be fun to work with the Beatles.
This is how the Beatles sings it:
ALL you NEED is LOVE!
In my opinion, "all" is the most important word of this sentence. Because love is all you need.

signs.
What are you afraid of?
June 20, 2009
1. To make you a "Better Man".
2. To have "Whatever It Is".
I love all that you are, everything about being married to you. I have no regrets, all hopes.
You make me the best woman I could ever hope to be.
And the most emo.
Obviously.

traverse city.
if our vacation is a foreshadowing of what is to come in the next year of our marriage, then I can't wait to see what happens.
here are a few highlights of the trip:
Is that paint yummy, Cody?
We painted a coffee mug at Handz on Art! It was so much fun. I can't wait to get our mug in the mail after it is fired in the kiln! Cody says the mug is very "eclectic" of us, with his "organized" designs and my random frilly style. I will post pictures of the finished mug when we get it in the mail.

my first polyvore.
Now playing: Regina Spektor - Samson
via FoxyTunes
Yes, folks. This is my own piece...first piece, I made from this website. Check out this site...there are many very talented artists. They are very impressive. Here are my thoughts after, and during the making of it:
I was thinking about the hidden memories each one of us has, each from different backgrounds and sorrows and joys. I was thinking about how everything that happens to you, whether good or bad, it makes you who you are, and how you are. How the bad memories are essential to making you, you. And just because you feel that something is everything that completes you; even when you know something is the good in your life, doesn't mean it actually is. Your hero can turn out to be your worst enemy. The prey may, someday, when you least expect it, become the predator. I was also inspired by the song at the top of this post, Samson, by Regina Spektor. Give it a listen, if you please.
I hope you like the polyvore! Hopefully there will be more to come.

love is like breathing.
Love is like breathing, so refreshing and natural. You almost don't notice its existence, until it is taken away and it leaves you gasping and lifeless. -SNH

to make you feel my love
I could offer you a warm embrace
To make you feel my love...
, originally uploaded by Olivia Bee.
"The storms are raging on the rollin' sea
And on the highway of regret
The winds of change are blowing wild and free
You ain't seen nothing like me yet."
When the evening shadows and the stars appear
And there is no one there to dry your tears
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love"
-Bob Dylan
originally posted by xshereeSometimes I wish I was un-human enough to have this ability. I wish I could love someone this much, and I feel that I do. But you probably have seen something like me yet, and I couldn't hold you for a million years. I can hardly hold someone for 5 minutes before letting go.
I know that God loves this much because He is and can and will.
I wonder what it would take for me to love someone so much, I would hold him a million years.

my life would suck without you.
Guess this means you're sorry
You're standing at my door
Guess this means you take back
All you said before
Like how much you wanted
Anyone but me
Said you'd never come back
But here you are again
Cause we belong together now, yeah
Forever united here somehow, yeah
You got a piece of me
And honestly
My life would suck without you
Maybe I was stupid for telling you goodbye
Maybe I was wrong for trying to pick a fight
I know that I've got issues
But you're pretty messed up too
Either way, I found out I'm nothing without you
Being with you is so dysfunctional
I really shouldn't miss you, but I can't let you go
Cause we belong together now, yeah
Forever united here somehow, yeah
You got a piece of me
And honestly
My life would suck without you
-Kelly ClarksonThis is us. So
dysfunctional sometimes,
but can't live
without each other.
My life would suck
without you, Cody.
Thank you for
always saying sorry
when we want to throw
things at each other, and
sticking to this thing we
have together,even when I
make it so hard to love me.
I can't wait to go out
with you tonight, husband!) Love.

one more day.
but we just don't know if it's gonna grow.
The turning point is gone but we're just pressing on.
and we still don't know if these flowers will grow.
I don't mind the change, if it makes you happy.
So put it all on black and we ain't going back
to rewind back when to see what might have been.
And it would be inline to say that it wouldn't feel so great
just to know it's gonna end.
And all I really know is that I won't let go.
I've got a hand to hold and I won't let go
It's all I know.
Took it by the hand and we watered it like plants,
but we just don't know if it's gonna grow.
The turning point is gone but we keep pressing on.
and we still don't know if these flowers will grow.
-Bleach
I have heard much talk in my life, such as, "One of the problems with relationships is that after a while you begin to take each other for granted." or "Be aware. We are all human, therefore, we all take things for granted."
I would beg to differ. Every. single. time. Cody walks through the door in the morning after a drive home from work, when he shows himself warm and alive against my sleeping body, my lungs breathe a sigh of relief and my heart leaps in praise...
all because God has granted me one more day with him.

grey sweatpants, so perfect.
This song (Comfortable, by John Mayor) can't help but remind me of our year long break-up, and how I felt about you when I thought it was over for good.
I loved you, grey sweatpants.

what is your worst fear?
Breathe in
Breathe out
Tell me all of your doubts
Everybody bleeds this way
Just the same
Breathe in
Breathe out
Move on and break down
If everyone goes away
I will stay
We push and pull
And I fall down sometimes
I'm not letting go
You hold the other line
Cause there is a light
In your eyes...
Hold on, Hold tight
If I'm out of your sight
And everything keeps moving on
Moving on
Hold on, Hold tight
Make it through another night
Everyday, there comes a song
With the dawn
We push and pull
And I fall down sometimes
But I'm not letting go
You hold the other line
Cause there is a light
In your eyes...
Breathe in
And breathe out
Breath in
And breathe out
Breathe in
And breathe out
Breathe in
And breathe out
Look left
Look right
To the moon
And the night
Everything under the stars
Is in your arms
Cause there is a light
In your eyes...
The bold lyric (of my doing) is what makes this song come alive to me. Losing someone is so terrifying and heinous because against your will, but life keeps moving on. You cannot stop or reverse time, as much as you wish you could. But, somehow, you make it through another night. Somehow, the sun still rises in the morning. You breathe in and breathe out.
The sun has no sympathy for the circumstances. Nature does not care how you live or die, who you love or hate. It does not care how much you have left to do in life; it takes you by surprise, and it does not take gracefully.
Like Stephen Crane says in The Open Boat,
"When it occurs to a man that nature does not regard him as important, and that she feels she would not maim the universe by disposing of him, he at first wishes to throw bricks at the temple, and he hates deeply the fact that there are no bricks and no temples. Any visible expression of nature would surely be pelleted with his jeers. Then, if there be no tangible thing to hoot at he feels, perhaps, the desire to confront a personification and indulge in pleas, bowed to one knee, and with hands supplicant, saying: 'Yes, but I love myself.'"
It is my worst fear to lose him without the sun's sympathy.

I Am Yours
Sasha told me she heard this song a few hours before our wedding. It helped to calm her nerves and her fears on our incredible day, and it seems like the most appropriate response to her earlier dedication to me.
Love you, Sweetie.
