"Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get back, when brown can stick around -- (laughter) -- when yellow will be mellow -- (laughter) -- when the red man can get ahead, man -- (laughter) -- and when white will embrace what is right."
-Reverend Joseph Lowery, Inaugural Benediction
What is wrong with this picture?
Despite the laughter during prayer to a sovereign, just God, what the h did Lowery mean when he said "white will embrace what is right?"
I think we all know what he meant. Thank you, Joseph Lowery, you helped me to see that racism still exists in America.
In the meantime, I will make sure I work toward embracing "what is right."
